9 Innovative New Car Technologies Unveiled at CES 2017

Honda
Known as a “concept automated EV vehicle,” the much-buzzed-about NeuV offers a glimpse at what a commuter car of the near future might look like. Fueled by artificial intelligence, or the “emotion engine,” the boxy shape first and foremost suggests function over form, with a user-friendly, computer-infused interior designed to react to occupants. Honda has hinted that the NeuV would address traffic congestion, possibly through vehicle-to-vehicle communication systems. The Japanese automaker is also unveiling a concept motorcycle to showcase its robotics advancements as part of its theme of “Cooperative Mobility Ecosystem.” BMW Buttons are so 21st century. BMW is presenting HoloActive Touch, an evolution of its Gesture Control system currently found in the flagship 7-Series sedans. Just wave your hands and a free-floating projection will mimic interactions like a physical touchscreen. It’s a concept you might remember from the 2002 sci-fi flick Minority Report in that...

IDLING DEVICES OF AUTOMOBILE | IDLING DEVICES IN CARBURETOR | ANTI-DIESELING DEVICE

Idling devices in carburetor During idling, the throttle plate is almost in the closed position. Then the mass rate of air flow through the venture is small. Hence, the vacuum or depression produced at the venture is also small. With this small depression, no fuel can issue from the fuel orifice. Hence, an idling device is incorporated in the carburetor unit. he engine idling device can be seen in the picture. This device utilizes the large vacuum that prevails at the edge of the throttle plate for effecting fuel supply, when the throttle plate is almost in the closed position. The required idling mixture strength can be obtained by adjusting the idling air screw. The quantity of the mixture supplied to the engine is controlled by the throttle plate setting. This setting decides the extent of closure of the inlet passage by the throttle plate. The idling device operates at maximum capacity when the throttle plate is almost in the closed position. The effectiveness of the...

BRAKE PERFORMANCE TEST OF AN AUTOMOBILE | BRAKE SERVICE LAWS AND REGULATIONS WORLD WIDE

Automotive Service Technicians and Mechanics Brake Performance Test of an Automobile The brake performance test of FMVSS 105 defines the minimum needs for the brake system on any vehicle driven on the road. The technician should know a bit about the performance test, not for the sake of being able to quote government regulations. Parts of the test define the kind of performance a brake system should deliver after the vehicle serviced. The brake performance test divided into eighteen stages and begins with a new set of brakes on a test vehicle. The first stage is to install the test instruments on the vehicle and verify that they operate correctly. The vehicle then goes through the test called “first effectiveness test”. This test is performed with new brake linings before they have had a chance to burnish in. Rules and Regulations for driving an automobile The vehicle makes six stops from 30 mph and six stops from 60 mph. One of the stops from 30 mph made in 57 feet or less. One s...

GRAPHENE | GRAPHENE TECHNOLOGY | GRAPHENE THE MATERIAL OF THE FUTURE | GRAPHENE REVIEW | GRAPHENE PROPERTIES | GRAPHENE PRODUCTION

The graphene is a substance which has a single-layer crystal lattice of carbon atoms, which is unusual since it is different from all of the materials of its kind. Several researchers have identified a way of making this substance, which allows them to use it in various fields and especially for the high-speed electronic devices. 01-graphene layer-graphene lattice parameters-graphene growth-Graphene_from_gases_for_new,_bendable_electronics_ Graphene Definition: Graphene is defined as a one atom thin sheet of carbon atoms arranged in a Hexagonal format or a flat monolayer of carbon atoms that are tightly packed into a 2D honeycomb lattice. 01-graphene hexagonal layer-graphene lattice parameters-graphene growth History: In October 2010, two University of Manchester (U.K.) scientists, Andre Geim and Konstantin Novolselov, were awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in physics for their research on graphene. Graphene is a one-atom-thick sheet of carbon whose strength, flexibility, and e...

Taptic Engine

Taptic engine In older days tiny joysticks are used in Laptop’s which are replaced by touch pad’s. Later touch pad’s with the function of separate mouse buttons feel immense. Already the latest gadgets have multiple fingers at once, Pinch to zoom and scrolling with two fingers. Latest technology adapted to the Apple’s watch, Macbook Pro and Iphone 7 are Apple’s Force Touch Taptic Engine enabling smooth operations. Now this feature enables how hard you press, which creates new oscillating signals for the new interface. Why the name created as Taptic? The word is the combination of “Tap” and “Haptic”. A technology which generates vibration from the forces developed while pressing by the user to convey the information. Think of a game controller when the character fears when shot produce a vibration to the user. This signal is called as “haptic feedback”. Parts of the Tactic Engine The whole assembly is made up of a force sensor and a lateral vibrator. Underneath the force tou...

What is Mechanical Engineering?

Mechanical engineering is a diverse subject that derives its breadth from the need to design and manufacture everything from small individual parts and devices (e.g., microscale sensors and inkjet printer nozzles) to large systems (e.g., spacecraft and machine tools). The role of a mechanical engineer is to take a product from an idea to the marketplace. In order to accomplish this, a broad range of skills are needed. The mechanical engineer needs to acquire particular skills and knowledge. He/she needs to understand the forces and the thermal environment that a product, its parts, or its subsystems will encounter; to design them for functionality, aesthetics, and the ability to withstand the forces and the thermal environment they will be subjected to; and to determine the best way to manufacture them and ensure they will operate without failure. Perhaps the one skill that is the mechanical engineer’s exclusive domain is the ability to analyze and design objects and systems with moti...
